including tips and strategies for family, friends, and health care professionals.
Course objectives:
- Explain how the progression of dementia affects the ability to communicate.
- Describe the steps to implement a person-centered approach for communication.
- Introduce strategies for communicating with a person with dementia.
- Identify ways to improve communication between caregivers and dementia patients.
10:00 – 10:30 Visit with Vendors
10:30- 11:30 Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors - a look at common behavioral changes,
how they impact communication and caregiving, and how to successfully approach these
behaviors.
Course objectives:
- Describe how dementia causes behavioral changes as the disease progresses.
- List triggers for dementia-related behaviors.
- Discuss non-medical versus medical ways to intervene and address behaviors.
- Explain and demonstrate the 4-step approach for managing behaviors.
